On the Lazarus Pit, we get to chill and explore the fuzzy mind of Knate Koti who is much familiar to the underground scene. Check out the QnA with the veteran himself. The Lazarus Pit!

First and foremost, let’s talk about Knate Koti, who is Knate Koti, the meaning and what inspire you to
venture into music?

*  Knate Koti who’s real name is Areipeleng Mogomotsi Mona is a music fanatic from Bloemfontein/South Africa, a genuine conscious music lover who got the musical influence from jazz, RnB, neo-soul and hip hop
but specially finding joy in creating deep house.

Tell us about your journey into music, your rst encounter with music
*  I was told that while I was growing up I’d tap my feet to music and that little head nod of pleasure from
greatly orchestrated song. I have always had an interest in music to a point where my peers would be playing
street games but I’d always be concerned about the music playing around, and going to primary were I was
known for making sounds with school tables, me pretending to be a DJ in class during and after school
“laughs”.  Buy the real dream begun to surface when I was introduced to music production in 2005 by my
friend “Thabang Morakabi” who taught me how the DAW works, I started carving my skill from then, which in
2014 I managed release to my debut EP Titled “My City”

Tell us about your album art, what inspired it and who designed it?
* The Album Art of OSpring EP is a picture of myself when I was young, designed by myself because I didn’t
think any graphic designer would have depicted what I had in mind. This EP was meant to bring out the
childhood on the listener, for children are not afraid to be dreamers.

Why did you decide to name it Offspring EP, what significance does the release play in your life?
* This EP was inspired by my upbringing and the angle of which I perceive life, from the daily hurdles and hustles that alleviate my perspective about the modern world.  Though the whole EP doesn’t have lyrics but the melody speaks a thousand words that a listener can articulate.  Offspring is a birth of new life, a new child being born and bringing joy tO  a family.

Tell us about the track listing of your release

* The whole EP was written by myself, the release of it was independently released on Bandcamp of which it
was my 1st independent release that I have put on sale amongst many releases that were previously signed
by various labels.

Why didn’t you feature any remixes for Offspring EP?
* Ospring EP is undoubtedly about myself, my story and me exploring the depths of my being on earth,
including a remixer on it would have swayed the story line, and by the way some songs should be left just the way they are *laughs*

Tell us about the formation of the EP, what transpired, how long did it take to record, where the recording
took place?

* The tracks were written one year apart, the oldest was produced in 2016 in my small bedroom studio, so all this tracks  were hand picked from various works that I have did from the previous years to make Ospring EP,  the release of it was delayed by my urge of wanting them to be pressed on vinyl, but fate wasn’t on my side hence I decided to
release them Independently.

If you had to relate your release to any existing release, which would it be?

* Wow interesting question, from the influences like Franck Roger, Kerri Chandler, Glenn Underground etc, I can’t really
think of any package that has the same sound like this, and I believe my existence in deep house community is to contribute to this beautiful movement by being myself and authentic*

Tell us about your style of production in the EP
* The sound of Offspring EP dates from 90’s to the early 2000’s, through the years house music has evolved to many styles that are largely accepted by the world, but I kind of missed that old school raw sound of Rhodes and Strings that we know house music for, hence a picture of myself when I was young, of which then I believe my folks were jamming to Black Box – Fantasy *laughs*

Why Bandcamp?
* .  Bandcamp it’s by far one of the leading platforms that give artist a reputable share of sales on their craft,
and you get to see who’s supporting your release and not to mention real time notification when your music
is purchased.

Will the release ever feature on physical platform?
* I would love to press limited copies of Offspring EP like I mentioned above its release was delayed because
I wanted it to be released on vinyl, I believe it deserves such because it’s sounds timeless…. at least to me.

If you used a different DAW to produce the release that the one you used, would the style ever been
different?

* I think the DAW is just a brand, it’s definitely about the output not the resources at your disposal, the most
important thing is the writing of the song…and I used my favorite ofcoz “Fruity Loops”

Besides the style you used, if you had to change it, what style/genre would you change the release to?

* . The closest sound for me right now is chilled hip hop and neo soul, of which I am slowly venturing into it  so I believe I would maybe at least be explorative to that kind of level of which that will be undoubtedly be a high leap from me
*laughs*

Words in closing to all producers and artists?
* Do you, follow no rules and levitate. Peace
