South African sounds have always found themselves amongst the most listened and streamed globally, but above all, it has a lot of underdogs for that matter, who keep the underground alive and burning...and it gets no different when the gods give an ear to warm sounds from the south, as the expectation rises, more is delivered without compromise......and this is what Wolford Heifer stands for..
Much is known about Wolford Heifer, aka Gary Hattenberger, the honcho at Dirty Analog Records, the label that is known to boast about raw sounds, housing most of his production. On Bandcamp, you find gems, real gems, worth of stimulating, but because I took time to listen and preview his stuff, and yes, on Bandcamp he doesn't mess around!! I decided to dig in a lil deeper and man, I came across a particular gem dropped in 2018 on Somanymusic, and from the groove that comes from this label, I can stand to be corrected and says it's South African, cause the artist roster slaps really hard!!
This release for me stands out, it’s much different from what Wolford houses on Bandcamp, as much of his music is groove and laid, but this on right here is straight jabs and upper cuts without a doubt! Almost 40 minutes of insane back to back sounds, my attention stopped on a track called Ancient Double Chants - Dub Edit, and something caught my attention. Across all his catalogue, any track from Wolfrod Heifer that carries ''Dub'' in the title……. man, oh man.... Poseidon better have his cape ready cause he goes in hard on that signature!
The formation and engineering of the sounds is impeccable, the artwork is laced out pretty well and the sequencing of the songs really create and close the mood son well, you just can't get lost in his symphonical aura. It’s a definite approval, the Gods can never turn away from such an amazing craft...
